Cucumber prices tumbling rapidly in Poland

Despite the start of the Polish cucumber season last week, growers are forced to reduce their prices day by day, reports Fruit-Inform referring to Fresh-market.

Just over the weekend, cucumber prices have fallen by 15% in Poland, reaching PLN 7-9/kg (EUR 1.69-2.17/kg).

Market players link negative price trend with both low sales rates and rather fierce competition driven by imports of less expensive cucumbers of Spanish origin.

Meanwhile, prices could have fallen even sharper, if not for rather slow growth in supply of domestic cucumbers in Poland, as their ripening rates are low due to cloudy weather. Nevertheless, current prices are already 15% lower compared with the second half of February 2017.
