“Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine”, the first in the CIS specialized fruit and vegetable conference, got a second wind in 2011 having moved to the most up-to-date and comfortable expocenter of Ukraine and combined its activities with Fresh Produce Ukraine Expo, the only technological exhibition for agribusiness professionals in Ukraine. Thanks to a new format and qualitative changes in the program, the conference has kept its status of the biggest fruit and vegetable event in the CIS attended by professionals from 20 countries throughout the globe.

Already 9^th International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2012. New Challenge” takes place in conjunction with the second edition of Fresh Produce Ukraine Expo at IEC, Kiev. As last year, the conference sessions will be held for two days, while the third day will deal with the international trade forum that has become the main fruit and vegetable event last year. The conference will enable farmers and exporters to conclude supply contracts with supermarket chains, wholesale companies and processors as well as contracts of supply of seeds and seedlings, machinery and equipment for their business. In addition, the conference is an ideal place to share experience and ideas with colleagues and partners.

Among this year's novelties:

•  Presentations of the biggest investment projects in the Ukrainian sector: largest storage facilities, modern greenhouse centers, biggest processing enterprises;
•  Closer attention to produce marketing: rankings of retail chains according to different criteria, retail cooperation masterclass, assessment of export prospects, negotiations with the biggest buyers.

 

The conference will be traditionally attended by representatives of all ranks of the fruit and vegetable business: farmers, suppliers of technologies, machinery and equipment, representatives of supermarket chains and wholesale companies, importers and specialized mass media. Last year's trade forum was attended by all leading retail chains from Ukraine as well as several chains from Russia and big wholesale companies. All these chains have preliminary confirmed their participation in 2012.

The conference program will cover the rankings of leading suppliers of seeds and seedlings, machinery and equipment, supermarket chains according to their fruit and vegetable activities, rankings of major varieties and hybrids as well as other information enabling to be conversant in rather difficult and dynamically developing fruit and vegetable market.

This year the conference's name was widened with a phrase “New Challenge”, as Ukraine has faced two seasons of low prices for vegetables and potatoes after two preceding seasons of high ones. Moreover, in the previous season, many could hardly sell produce even at lowest prices, therefore it was professional qualities that came to the foreground in the fruit and vegetable sector: system work on produce marketing and constant analysis of the market situation as well as permanent improvement of the quality of vegetables and potatoes. It was these enterprises that had survived under hardest conditions of the previous season and made proper conclusions for the next season. What will it be? Unfortunately, it is expected to be rather difficult for Ukrainian farmers, therefore there will be almost no come-and-go people left in the fruit and vegetable business by the following year.

It is the conference participants who will be the first to know about fruit and vegetable production and price forecast for the season 2013/14 in November 2012. They will also receive exclusive information about the price guideline for the second half of the season and listen to opinions of the leading global fruit and vegetable experts.

The conference sections covering present situation and development prospects in the market, produce growing, handling, cooling and storage technologies will as before show novelties having appeared in the market.
