Fruit and veg price growth quickened the last week
Fruit and vegetable index of Fruit-Inform Project shows that last week the cost of Ukrainian consumers' fruit and vegetable basket grew by 1.8% after 1% increase a week earlier. Over the last 3 weeks prices have already increased by 7%. In such a way, price growth trends remain to be observed in Ukraine.
Last week prices increased due to borsch vegetables (onions, cabbages, beets, carrots) and fruits. At the same time, greenhouse vegetables were predominantly stable in price.
Among borsch vegetables, there was a slight increase of prices for beets and rather sharp – for onions as it was expected by market participants. However, we should note that the price fixed for onions is not sufficient for significant growth of onion imports yet. Prices for carrots, cabbages and potatoes were stable during the last week.
We should also mention further growth of prices for Ukrainian apples up to average selling price of UAH 7/kg (EUR 0.65/kg). This is a record-breaking price for such period of a year. Moreover, market participants expect subsequent growth of prices for apples.
More detailed information about price prospects of borsch vegetables (onions, cabbages, beets, carrots) will be available during the third international conference “Potato and Vegetables of Ukraine-2011”.
This event is to take place at Shuvar wholesale market, Lvov, Ukraine, February 24-25, 2011. On-line registration is available through this link.
