Borsch vegetable (onion, cabbage, beet, carrot) and potato price growth rates decreased considerably in the current season, analyst states
According to Fruit-Inform Project, borsch vegetable (onion, cabbage, beet, carrot) and potato price growth rates in the current season are considerably lower than in the previous.
“In the previous season, vegetables and potatoes increased in price averagely 2.3 times in the second half of February comparatively to September. In the current season, price growth was only 53%, and carrots even decreased in price”, Andriy Yarmak, head of Fruit-Inform Project, tells. “However, such price growth is as before too high, and caused predominantly by unfavorable weather conditions of the past year and high vegetable prices in neighboring Russia actively importing produce from Ukraine”, the analyst continues.
At the same time, vegetable prices may show opposite dynamics already in the next season. “Preliminary results of the fundamental study of the new season's prospects show that prices for many borsch vegetables (onion, cabbage, beet, carrot) during harvesting may be higher than prices for the same produce in spring if there are no natural disasters”, A. Yarmak notes.
More detailed information of the new season's price prospects for potatoes and other traditional vegetables, as well as of novelties in their growing, post-harvest handling and storage technologies will be available during the third international conference “Potato and Vegetables of Ukraine-2011”.
This event is to take place at Shuvar, the largest fresh fruit and vegetable produce wholesale market of Ukraine, Lvov, Ukraine, February 24-25, 2011.
