Sharp price fall for greenhouse produce led to decrease in fruit and vegetable prices in Russia
Fruit-Inform Project's Russian fruit and vegetable index shows that the cost of fruit and vegetable basket of the Russian consumers has decreased by 2% over last week exclusively due to fall in greenhouse produce prices. At the same time, fruit and traditional vegetable prices kept on growing.
Greenhouse cucumber prices fell by one third last week. The main reason of this lied in increase of supply of cheap Iranian produce in the market. Besides this, there was slight decrease of greenhouse tomato prices registered in Russia.
Fruit prices went on steady growing. Apples, mandarins, and lemons became more expensive last week. In such a way, fruit prices increased by 6% in total. Traditional vegetables and potatoes became 2% more expensive in total last week due to onion price growth.
