Construction of ceilings nearing completion in fruit and vegetable pavilion of Stolichnyi wholesale market in Kiev
As the administration of Stolichnyi wholesale market said to Fruit-Inform Project, the market construction works are in progress according to the schedule approved previously. As of today, construction of ceilings over the first fruit and vegetable pavilion is near completion, and construction of canopies over already installed columns of from-cars marketplace begins. In such a way, Stolichnyi's management expects to put the market into operation on July 1, 2011, as it was planned before.
Management of Shuvar company, a managing partner of new wholesale market, notes a high level of interest to rent of fixed trading places in covered pavilions of the wholesale market from producers and wholesale enterprises. According to them, the high interest to the object is explained by transparent structure of distribution of trading places through the system of issue of bonds; 15-25% higher prices that producers will be able to get during sales in the market in comparison with prices being got from wholesalers now; high-capacity marketing channel (6-10 thousand tonnes when renting one standard fixed trading place); possibility to store produce under proper temperature conditions right at trading place; opportunity to keep abreast of the market developments and seek for new buyers daily; and many others.
The market will be constructed on the area of 160 hectares near Metro Cash & Carry supermarket, Big Circular Road of Kiev. For comparison: an area of Shuvar wholesale market in Lvov is about 12 hectares, and an area of Fermer, existing fruit and vegetable wholesale market at Troeschina residential community of Kiev, is even smaller. Aggregate investments in new wholesale market are estimated to reach 113 million euro, and its design will take into account the experience of creation of the best wholesale markets in Europe and, what is important, the successful experience of Shuvar wholesale market that has been actively developing since 2002 and already enters the group of 10 biggest fruit and vegetable wholesale markets of Europe.
The first turn of the market worth more than 26 million euro and occupying an area of 62 thousand square meters is planned to be completed in 2011 that will enable it to start operations with all major categories of produce. In particular, fresh fruit and vegetable produce pavilion with equipped pre-sale preparation zone, Fish and Meet Food terminals, Flowers pavilion, as well as indoor from-cars marketplace, fruit and vegetable storage facilities, and customs clearance zone will be put into operation already in 2011. In future, all these terminals will widen, and logistics center and development center of agricultural production and post harvest handling technologies will begin their work.
Investors of Stolichnyi agricultural produce wholesale market project plan to implement four development turns of the market development. The market will provide 7 thousand job positions. When reaching estimated capacity, about 1.9 million tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetable produce, 120 thousand tonnes of fish, and 380 thousand tonnes of meet will be sold through this market annually. Besides this, the flower segment of the market will be the biggest in Ukraine. This means that Stolichnyi will become one of the biggest fresh agricultural produce market in Europe.
