Russia breaking records in cabbage imports

According to Fruit-Inform Project, Russian importers doubled cabbage import volumes in 2011. In the first five months of the current season they imported 16% more cabbage than in the whole last year, and 58% more than in the whole year 2009. If compare import volume in the first five months of this year with the same period of 2010, then the volume increased approximately two times.

“Increase of cabbage imports in Russia is caused, first of all, by lower domestic production due to unfavorable weather conditions”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says. “However, according to our estimates, cabbage production will sharply grow in Russia in 2011 that may lead to dramatic decrease of import volumes”, the expert continues.

More detailed information about fruit and vegetable production and price prospects in the Russian Federation will be presented during the Fourth International Conference ”Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia” that will take place as a part of World Food Moscow, Russia, September 14, 2011.
