Ukraine's $100 mln vegetable exports in lean 2010
According to Fruit-Inform Project, notwithstanding problems with weather and vegetable harvests in 2009 and 2010, the value of Ukraine's vegetable exports reached $100 mln in 2010. This again disproves absurd assertions of vegetable production not developing in Ukraine and calls to grow vegetables at household plots.
For comparison, the value of Ukraine's vegetable exports did not exceed $10-20 mln 5-6 years ago. Therefore, over this period it grew 10 times in US dollars and even more considerable in Ukrainian hryvnias.
Russia traditionally was the most important target market for Ukrainian vegetable exporters. This country accounted for more than a half of Ukraine's total vegetable export value. However, last season Ukraine's export geography significantly broadened, and Russian Federation's share decreased.
More detailed information about prospects of fruit and vegetable exports to Russia will be presented during the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011” which will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011.
