Vegetable prices may grow sharply in Poland in the second half of the season
According to fresh-market.pl, current prices for vegetables in Poland are much lower in comparison with August of last year. Local farmers connect such a situation with higher production in the country. Due to rainy weather, potatoes, all cabbage varieties and root crops turned out to be rather vulnerable to different diseases and in most cases not suitable for long-term storage. Most vegetables can not be stored at all as they are already damaged by rot. Farmers try to sell such a produce as fast as possible that provokes current reduction of prices.
At the same time, according to Fruit-Inform Project, there are no problems with quality of traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbages, red beets and carrots) in Russia and Ukraine. Farmers are not satisfied with current price levels, therefore plan to store the most part of their vegetables hoping for increase of prices in the second half of the season.
More information about the situation in the fresh produce markets of Poland, Russia and Ukraine will be presented during the Fourth International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2011”. The event will take place in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 14, 2011. Registration of the conference participants is currently in active progress.
