Fruit and vegetable prices continue to fall in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform Project's fruit and vegetable index shows that fruit and vegetable prices decreased by 2.9% in Ukraine last week. Moreover, the price decrease rate amounted to 16% over the past three weeks. In general, the price reduction trend is in effect in Ukraine since the mid-May of the current year. Furthermore, this season is characterized by absence of seasonal price leaps.
“Start of harvesting of late onions and potatoes as well as increase in supply of field-grown tomatoes were the main reason to favor slump in fruit and vegetable prices”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform Project, says. “Next week the market operators' attention will be mainly attracted to onions, potatoes, carrots, white cabbages and red beets, demand for which will be growing”, the expert adds. It should be noted that fruit prices grew slightly last week due to higher wholesale prices for watermelons. Nevertheless, such a fact was partially compensated by lower wholesale prices for table grapes in Ukraine.
