Non-commercial apples curbing apple prices in Ukraine

According to Fruit-Inform Project, Ukrainian farmers report of moderate demand for apples in the internal market due to larger supply of non-commercial apples (grown at household plots).

With harvesting of late apples being in progress, Ukrainian producers keep on increasing their supply and thus exert pressure on prices. Therefore main quantities of apples suitable for storage are stored, and the remained volumes are exported to the Russian Federation where exporters can obtain 20-30% higher prices than in the internal market.

We should note that notwithstanding a huge progress in construction of new CA and ULO storehouses (according to Fruit-Inform Project, apple producers dispose of the best storage facilities in Ukraine), the shortage of high-quality storehouses remain rather significant in comparison with the EU countries. In view of this, those producers who do not have modern storage facilities may solve such a problem by application of SmartFresh and Fito-Mag quality maintenance systems which will be presented at Fresh Produce Ukraine 2011 Fair. The exhibition will take place at IEC, the most up-to-date exhibition center of Ukraine in Kiev, from November 30 to December 2, 2011.

As of today, about two thirds of the exhibition's area has been already reserved. There are about 50 companies from 10 countries of the world engaged in the fresh produce business among exhibitors, inclusive of such world-know companies as Syngenta, Agrofresh Inc. (Smatfresh), Enza Zaden, Greefa, The Nickerson-Zwaan Group, Agroplant, Allround Vegetable Processing B.V., APH Group, Altracon, Insolar, Chilean Fresh Fruit Association, Maschio Gaspardo S.p.A., Mediterranean Fruit Company S.p.A., Sorma Group, Fito-Mag, Kronen GmbH, Plattenhardt + Wirth GmbH, Holland Rosetta and many others.

The event will be widely covered in the global specialized and business mass media and has already received official support from Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Furthermore, the exhibition will be a place for the Eighth International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2011. New Exporter”.
