Fruits and vegetables again decrease in price in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform's fruit and vegetable index shows that last week the total value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket decreased by 1% week-on-week, after 5.2% growth of week earlier. In such a way, the price growth trend, outlined in the second half of October after the six-month price decrease, was again interrupted.
“The decrease of fruit and vegetable prices could be even sharper if not the ongoing growth of greenhouse vegetable prices, which increased by 30% week-on-week”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “At the same time, all vegetables suitable for storage, potatoes and fruits decreased in price last week”, the expert continues.
The prices for potatoes and traditional vegetables kept on falling under the influence of the high seasonal level of supply. As to the fruit basket, its value decreased thanks to citrus fruits of a new harvest to have entered the market. In addition, apple prices were significantly impacted by the harvesting nearing its end in most Ukrainian regions.
