Fruit and vegetable prices stable for more than a month in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform's fruit and vegetable index shows that the value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket did not change last week. In such a way, as we forecast, fruit and vegetable prices have been almost stable for more than a month in Ukraine. Over the past 4 weeks, the basket's value increased only by 0.7%.
“Prices will be stable for about 2 weeks in the country, then a slight increase is possible due to New Year holidays”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “At the same time, we forecast that a pre-New-Year increase of the fruit and vegetable basket's value will be one of the most insignificant in the past 10 years thanks to both households' low purchasing power and record high supply of fruits and vegetables in Ukraine”, Mrs. Getman continues.
Last week, a fast growth of greenhouse cucumber prices and a sharp fall of greenhouse tomato prices were simultaneously registered that enabled them to compensate each other. In addition, carrot prices slightly decreased in price, banana and orange prices were reduced more significantly.
