Russia imports record volumes of Ukrainian greenhouse cucumbers

According to Fruit-Inform, as of December 01, 2011, Russia imported record-breaking volumes of greenhouse cucumbers from Ukraine with the year-on-year growth of imports from this country amounted to 29%. Russia's total greenhouse cucumber import volumes from Ukraine are expected to increase by 30% in 2011 and for the first time ever reach 18,000 tonnes.

“Ukraine is a CIS pioneer in greenhouse technologies and keeps on developing its production and exports of greenhouse produce”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “According to our estimates, Ukraine's greenhouse vegetable export value will amount to $60 mln in 2011, and to no less than $70 mln in 2012”, the expert continues.

At the same time, the market analysts think that high dependance on Russia is the main problem of the Ukrainian greenhouse sector, as this country imports about 90% of all greenhouse produce grown in Ukraine.
