Value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket continues to grow

Fruit-Inform's fruit and vegetable index shows that the value of Ukrainians' fruit and vegetable basket grew by 1.2% last week, after 2.6% increase a week earlier. Nevertheless, the basket's value is still 2.5 times lower year-on-year.

“Last week, the most significant contribution to an increase in the basket's value was made by fruits, as wholesalers' traditional Pre-New-Year purchasing enabled farmers and importers to raise apple prices by 9%. In addition, bananas became 12% more expensive that only aggravated the situation with demand for this product in Ukraine”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “At the same time, prices for traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbages, red beets, carrots) and potatoes did not change, while greenhouse vegetables increased in price slightly: averagely by 1.5%”, the expert adds.
