Seed potatoes sharply fall in price in Ukraine

Seed potatoes fell in price by 40-50% year-on-year in Ukraine. This was reported to Fruit-Inform by seed breeding farms and producers planning their planting campaign for the next season. Current average prices for seed potatoes vary between UAH 2.50-5.00/kg (EUR 0.25-0.49/kg), depending on the quality, while last year's prices reached UAH 10/kg (EUR 0.99/kg) and higher.

Notwithstanding such a dramatic decrease in prices, sellers report of the demand for seed potatoes remaining rather moderate in Ukraine due to farmers' low paying capacity. Some seed breeding farms have already voiced their fears of being unable to sell all stocks of seed potatoes, which currently are several times higher year-on-year.

More detailed information about Ukrainian and Russian fruit and vegetable markets (inclusive of the market for seed potatoes) is available for subscribers of Fruit-Inform Weekly service package.
