Ukrainian farmers forced to heat their potato and vegetable storage facilities

Low temperature registered in Ukraine leads to losses of fruits and vegetables stored in unequipped storage facilities.

“Some warehouses, where vegetables and potatoes are stored, are not properly winterized, therefore they are not equipped to maintain stable temperature that leads to freezing of outer walls and damage of produce”, Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “Some farmers storing their produce in such warehouses decided to heat their storage facilities. At the same time, they are not sure that heating costs will be repaid, as prices will most likely not grow in spring”, the expert continues.
