Strawberry crop seriously damaged in Poland
Strawberry and some stone-fruit crops are under serious threat in Poland now. According to Fruit-Inform, farmers from southern regions and some central regions of Poland are especially concerned about it. The Polish market participants connect the situation with extreme weather conditions in winter. Trees suffered from hard frosts in February. In addition, fruit and berry plantations were negatively affected by insufficient snow cover during the whole winter.
As of today, Polish growers have already reported of stone-fruit trees blossoming with a number of barren flowers being rather high. However, it is very early to make final conclusions, as a serious cold snap is expected in southern regions of Poland next week that may become an additional blow to crops.
Fruit-Inform reminds that more detailed information about European berry and cherry harvest prospects as well as Ukraine berry and cherry price and production forecast and Russian berry market overview will be presented at the 3rd International Conference “Berries of Ukraine – 2012: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market” that will take place at Stolychnyi Agricultural Center, Kiev, Ukraine, May 24-25, 2012.
Registration of the conference participants is in active process.
