Ukraine: further slump in fruit and vegetable prices

Fruit-Inform's fresh produce index shows a sharp slump in fruit and vegetable prices in Ukraine last week, after a slight increase a week earlier. In the period from July 14 to 20, fruit and vegetable prices fell by 10.1%. In such a way, fruits and vegetables have become averagely 24.6% lower in price since early July.

“A decrease in fruit and vegetable prices is a traditional seasonal trend in July. However, this year the season of summer fruits and vegetables has started earlier than usual that may negatively affect its length”, Mrs. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform, says. “Tomatoes being sold at half-price have made the most important contribution to a decrease in the fresh produce index last week. Significant contribution was made also by white cabbages, carrots and onions that kept on rapidly falling in price”, the expert continues.

Cucumbers, peaches, apricots, watermelons, raspberries and oranges became more expensive last week. At the same time, apples and melons started decreasing in price.
