Russia: onion prices lower year-on-year

Fruit-Inform price monitoring shows a further decrease in onion prices in Russia.

For the present, almost all farms from the southern regions have started harvesting onions, therefore the supply is growing rather rapidly. As regards the demand, according to farmers' estimates, it remains extremely low, while a decrease in prices have no impact on sales.

Current onion prices have already fallen to EUR 0.13-0.15/kg in the southern regions that is 20-25% lower compared with August 2011.

For comparison: in neighboring Ukraine, ex-farm prices of onions vary between EUR 0.12-0.15/kg; in Poland, onions are offered at EUR 0.10-0.15/kg.

More detailed information about Russian onion production, import and price prospects will be presented at the 5th International Conference "Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2012" that will be held in conjunction with World Food Moscow, September 18, 2012.
