Lower fresh produce price index in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 2.7% last week.
“Greenhouse vegetables sharply grew in price due to a seasonal decrease in the supply in Ukraine last week. However, such a growth was compensated by a significant fall in prices of traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, red beets, carrots) and potatoes”, said Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “At the same time, apple prices increased because of lower supply of relatively inexpensive produce in the Ukrainian market”.
Traditional vegetables and potatoes became 10.9% less expensive thanks to a sharp decrease in prices of potatoes, onions and white cabbage in view of farmers' attempts to sell remaining quantities of low-quality produce unsuitable for long-term storage. Such a trend was especially appreciable in the white cabbage segment. When selling this produce, sellers were ready to make solid price concessions understanding that otherwise they would have to throw it out.
