France's Golden Delicious apple production to be 42% lower
In the season 2012/13, France's Golden Delicious apple production will be the lowest over the past decade. According to WAPA (World Apple & Pear Association) data, French growers will pick just 336,000 tonnes of these apples that is 42% lower year-on-year.
A decrease in production is connected with unfavorable weather conditions observed in the country. In the past 9 years, French farms harvested averagely 610,000 tonnes of Golden Delicious apples annually with the best result registered in the season 2003/04: 680,000 tonnes.
The share of these apples in total apple production reaches about 37% annually; however, in this season it will not be higher than 29%.
France's total apple production will be 31% lower in the season 2012/13 and amount to 1,2 mln tonnes.
