Potato prices grow in Russia

According to Fruit-Inform, the demand for potatoes appreciably grew in Russia this week due to lower supply of produce in local farms. Many growers with no long-term storage facilities have already finished sales during New Year holidays.

Wholesale companies complain about limited supply of high-quality potatoes. In their turn, farmers connect quality problems with unfavorable weather conditions during harvesting: pouring rains negatively affected both marketable state of potatoes and their storability.

The situation has already impacted potato prices which went up to RUB 6-7/kg (EUR 0.15-0.17/kg) in the past week.

As regards the Ukrainian potato market, more information on it will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2013” that is to take place in Kiev, Ukraine, February 19-20, 2013.
