Shuvar Market, Lviv, Ukraine: imported apples 50% more expensive than Ukrainian ones
Despite recommencement of domestic apple shipments to Shuvar, the largest wholesale market in the western regions of Ukraine, prices of imported apples are still rather high.
According to the market administration, current apple shipments are regular, and domestic supply is enough high to satisfy the demand. However, despite that, prices of imported apples are averagely 50% higher than prices of domestic produce. For comparison, Ukrainian apples are offered at the market averagely at UAH 4-6/kg (EUR 0.39-0.59/kg), while prices of imported produce are not lower than UAH 7.00-7.50/kg (EUR 0.68-0.73/kg). It should also be noted that prices of imported apples have gone down by 7-20% compared with a week before.
