Ukraine: Zhytomyr region leads in areas under cultivated blueberries
Growers from Zhytomyr region have the largest areas under cultivated blueberries in Ukraine, says Mr. Oleg Bosyy, international berry expert.
According to Fruit-Inform, blueberries are rather new crop for Ukrainian horticulturalists. Nevertheless, areas under blueberry cultivation have been growing in the country year by year. In the previous season they reached 260 ha. This year blueberries are cultivated on the area of 350 ha in Ukraine.
Areas in Zhytomyr region amount to 180 ha. Blueberries are also actively cultivated in Volyn (80 ha) and Vinnytsia (30 ha) regions. Blueberry plantations are also located in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv and Kiev regions; however, their areas are insignificant.
