Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 3.6% last week, after 1.1% growth a week earlier.
“A sharp increase in prices was registered in the segment of potatoes, onions, carrots and white cabbage. In addition, cucumber prices kept on growing due to unfavorable weather conditions”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “A decrease in prices of tomatoes and peaches was not able to compensate the two-week price growth trend”.
An increase in vegetable prices is traditionally observed in July due to the end of harvesting early varieties, while the harvesting campaign of middle-season and middle-late varieties has not been started yet. Growth in consumption of seasonal fruits and changes in their structure should also be taken into account in this period.
We would remind you that the Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 6% in June 2013 and by 27% in May 2013. Nevertheless, prices in late June 2013 were higher year-on-year.
