Price collapse in Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 11.4% last week, after previous two weeks of price growth. In such a way, fruit and vegetable prices returned to the levels of the second half of June.
“A decrease in prices was registered in almost all fruit and vegetable segments. Traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, table beets, carrots) and potatoes became especially less expensive last week due to a sharp increase in their supply”, says Ms Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “A decrease in prices of tomatoes, melons, watermelons and peaches should also be mentioned. Only cucumbers became more expensive due to off-season period”.
Fruit-Inform analysts expect a further increase in the supply of traditional vegetables, which will keep on negatively affecting prices. At the same time, current prices still are significantly higher year-on-year.
