Fourth week of fresh produce price reduction in Ukraine
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index shows fourth week of fruit and vegetable price reduction in a country. In the period from July 27 to August 02, the fresh produce price index decreased by 3%. In such a way, fruits and vegetables have become 44.3% less expensive in Ukraine over the previous four weeks.
“In July 2013 the fresh produce price reduction rate was more significant compared with the same month of 2012 (30%) due to the price levels in the beginning of the season being higher this year”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform.
The sharpest price decrease rates were registered in the segments of traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, beetroots, carrots), potatoes and fruits, which kept on becoming less expensive. Prices of traditional vegetables and potatoes decreased by 5.5% on average; fruits became 10.5% less expensive (the sharpest fruit price decrease rate this year). At the same time, prices of tomatoes slightly grew. Cucumbers also became more expensive due to a seasonal lack of supply.
