Ukraine: fresh produce price index grows for the first time over two months
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 0.8% in the period from August 24 to 30, after a decrease of 0.4% a week earlier. We would remind you that a cumulative decrease in the price index amounted to 46.5% over the previous 6 weeks.
“Last week prices of potatoes and traditional vegetables stabilized, except for onions, which kept on gradually decreasing in price. Nevertheless, lower onion prices were not able to compensate the price growth in the segment of field-grown vegetables”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “In addition, worse weather conditions may support prices of certain fruits and vegetables next week”.
Prices of fruits were stable in the majority of cases. A slight decrease in prices was registered only in the segments of apples and plums. The apple season has not started yet, though a sharp increase in demand for apples is expected in the first half of September simultaneously with a drop in demand for seasonal fruits.
We would remind you that more information about current developments and future prospects in the Ukrainian and Russian fruit and vegetable markets is available for subscribers of Fruit-Inform Weekly service package.
