Canned fruits and vegetables to become more expensive in Ukraine and Russia

Fruit-Inform analysts expect an increase in prices of canned fruits and vegetables in the Ukrainian and Russian markets.

“Canned produce is expected to grow in price due to lower processed volumes of fruits and vegetables and higher prices of raw produce fixed in summer 2013”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “In addition, glass packaging also became more expensive in 2013, and canning factories will try to include those costs in selling prices of their products”.

Ukraine is one of the leading suppliers of canned fruits and vegetables to the Russian market and exports large range of products. Canned vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes, green peas, beans, sweet corn, vegetable marrow paste, vegetable paste etc.) account for the largest share in exports. However, the export volumes of canned fruits (jams, marmalades etc.) have also been growing in the recent years. Nevertheless, Fruit-Inform analysts expect a decrease in Ukrainian exports of canned fruits and vegetables to Russia and other CIS countries in the season 2013/14.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Russian fruit and vegetable production prospects and market developments will be presented at the 6th International Conference “Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia – 2013”, which is to be held on September 17, 2013, in conjunction with World Food Moscow 2013 Exhibition, Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow.
