Ukrainian consumers spend less for fruits in 2013

Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index shows that in early October 2013, Ukrainians' fruit basket (containing apples, pears, bananas, oranges, lemons, mandarins and table grapes) was averagely 15.8% less expensive year-on-year. In such a way, in 2013 the fresh fruit price index was almost always lower compared with 2012.

“A decrease in the fresh fruit index is connected with higher production of domestic fruits and berries in the country, which led their lower average prices”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “In addition, prices were negatively influenced by earlier start of the citrus season in the Northern Hemisphere, which enabled both to increase supply and consumption”.

Most significant year-on-year decrease rate was registered in the citrus segment (averagely by 20-22%). Bananas are 18% less expensive. Table grape prices have decreased by 18.8% compared with early October 2012. At the same time, prices of apples (the main fruit for Ukrainians) are almost similar year-on-year.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market developments will be presented at the 10th Anniversary International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2013”, November 26-28, 2013, International Exhibition Center, Kiev, Ukraine.
