Livestock numbers in Ukraine continue to drop
According to State Statistics Committee, as of May 1, 2004 the number of cattle, kept by all categories of livestock breeders in Ukraine, dropped 13.9 percent from the figure of year ago - to 8.319 million heads. The number of cows dropped 8.7 percent from May 2003 - to 4.29 million heads.
The number of hogs dropped 23 percent from May last year - to 2.034 million heads.
The number of poultry as of May 1 constituted 133.9 million heads, which is 6.1 percent less than as of the same date last year.
The number of sheep and goats fell 7.6 percent from early May of 2003 - to 2.16 million heads.
