Onion prices in Ukraine twice as high as in Russia
Being one of the largest importer of onions in the world, the Russian Federation has had rather good domestic production in the current season favoring the price stability in the internal market and active exports of onions to Ukraine.
According to Fruit-Inform price monitoring, wholesale prices of onions currently vary between 0.21-0.25 euro/kg in Russia. Prices in Ukraine are averagely twice as high. Furthermore, current prices in the Russian Federation are twice as high as last year, while prices in Ukraine have grown 6 times year-on-year. In such a way, unlike in the previous season, when Ukraine shipped onions to Russia, now Russian farmers sell onions to Ukrainian importers.
Fruit-Inform has already informed about availability of large volumes of Russian onions in Ukraine. In the majority of cases, those onions are smuggled to Ukraine and offered there at 0.39-0.41 euro/kg, which is rather competitive in the Ukrainian market.
We would remind you that more detailed information about the current state and future developments in the Ukrainian and Russian market for potatoes and vegetables will be presented at the 6th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine-2014”, which will be held on February 20, 2014, President Hotel, Kiev, Ukraine.
