Poland: demand for fresh apples up

Polish growers say of an increase in the demand for fresh apples in the country with Gloster, Gala and Idared varieties being the most popular now.

Higher sales rates are connected with an increase in exporters' demand thanks to lower import duties in Russia since January 1. Before January 1, 2014, import duties on Golden Delicious and Granny Smith apples in Russia stood at 0.16 euro/kg. Other varieties were liable to the customs duty of 0.092 euro/kg. For the present, the customs duties in Russia have been reduced to 0.054 for all apple varieties.

Current apple prices in Poland vary between 0.20-0.56 euro/kg, depending on variety, quality and size. Export-quality apples are offered at maximum price levels.
