Ukrainian fresh produce price index continues to grow
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 1.2% in the week from February 15th to 21st, after an increase of 2.1% a week before. In such a way, the price index has already grown by 11.7% over the past 5 weeks.
“Instability in the currency market kept on favoring the price growth in Ukraine and directly affected prices of imported products”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “At the same time, the market participants said of lower demand for fruits and vegetables in the country”.
The sharpest increase in prices was registered in the segment of mandarins, which season was coming to an end in Ukraine. An increase in apple prices was observed due to lower supply against a background of stable demand as well as higher price levels in the segment of imported apples. At the same time, white cabbage and carrots became less expensive last week. Prices of greenhouse vegetables were not revised in the majority of cases, except a slight increase in cucumber prices in some regions.
