Ukraine: Crimean growers say of full loss of sweet cherry crop

Crimean growers count their losses from a cold spell registered in the peninsula in the last weekend.

Temperature went down to 4-7 degrees below zero, and losses from that decrease are already serious. According to Fruit-Inform, plums and apricots suffered the least. A decrease in peach production will stand at no less than 10-12%. As regards sweet cherries, the cold spell was devastating for them. Crimean growers assess that about 65% of sweet cherry crop will be lost with some farms reporting the losses of stonefruit at 100%.

Those growers that managed to save a part of their crop dread another cold spell expected in Ukraine this Thursday. Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center forecasts a sharp fall in temperature together with snow and rain in the majority of regions on April 3rd and 4th.
