Ukrainian fresh produce price index up for the first time over a month

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went up by 6.8% in the week from March 29th to April 4th, after a decrease of 1.0% a week before, for the first time over the past month.

“The price index grew due to a sharp increase in prices of greenhouse vegetables and white cabbage”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Greenhouse tomatoes became 45% more expensive, and prices of greenhouse cucumbers grew by 11% week-on-week due to instability in the Ukrainian currency market and an increase in Turkish growers' prices for tomatoes”.

Nevertheless, the most significant price growth rate was registered in the white cabbage market: up by 48.1% over a week due to lack of high-quality stocks in the country.

Bananas also made a contribution to growth in the price index thanks to an increase of 13.3% in their prices. At the same time, prices of other fruits were stable in the majority of cases.
