Russian apple growers unable to raise prices due to abundant supply of Polish produce

The Russian apple market participants say of rapidly decreasing domestic stocks of high-quality produce. Nevertheless, the situation still has no impact on prices. Regular imports of Polish apples do not enable Russian growers to raise their price levels.

Despite the devaluation of the Russian rouble, prices of Polish apples are just slightly higher than the price levels of domestic sellers. For the present, imported apples are offered at RUB 30-32/kg (EUR 0.58-0.62/kg) in the Russian Federation, an increase of 10-11% compared with early April 2013.

Russian farmers ship apples from equipped storage facilities at no higher than RUB 30/kg (EUR 0.58/kg). Apples from unequipped storage facilities are offered at RUB 15/kg (EUR 0.29/kg) and higher. We would remind you that in the same period of the previous season prices of domestic apples in Russia were not higher than RUB 29/kg (EUR 0.56/kg).
