Ukrainian fresh produce price index down
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 6.5% in the week from April 19th to 25th, after a significant growth of 16% a week before. Nevertheless, the price index is still 16.3% higher compared with the same period of the previous season.
“A decrease in the fresh produce price index is connected with a fall in prices of greenhouse vegetables due to lower demand for them after Easter holidays. Prices of traditional vegetables did not change after an increase a week before”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Banana prices slightly went down thanks to stabilization in the currency market that also may favor a decrease in prices of other imported categories”.
The supply of early vegetables and berries sharply grew last week that would affect prices of last year's produce in the nearest time. In particular, prices of early cabbage have already fallen below the price levels of last year's cabbage. As a rule, these developments are registered before a sharp decrease in the demand and prices for last year's produce. The supply of early potatoes and strawberries has also grown last week.
