Further decrease in Ukrainian fresh produce price index

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 2.1% in the week from April 25th to 30th, after a decrease of 6.5% a week earlier.

“A fall of 17.9% in prices of greenhouse vegetables again was the main reason for a sharp decrease in the price index. In addition, prices of traditional vegetables also went down as we had expected”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “At the same time, potato prices slightly grew that enabled to partially compensate a decrease in prices of other produce categories as the share of potatoes in consumption remained significant and their prices were still high”.

Fruit prices went down by 1.8% thanks to a decrease in prices of bananas connected with stabilization in the Ukrainian hryvnia exchange rate. Furthermore, the supply of early berries is expected to significantly grow this week that may lead to a decrease in the demand for other fruits.
