Ukrainian strawberry season to start later than in 2013

According to Fruit-Inform, active sales of Ukrainian strawberries are to start averagely two weeks later than in 2013.

Later season is connected with unfavorable weather conditions. Despite relatively early spring, plants began to bloom later due to low average daily temperature. Ripening is also slow as berries are short of sun and warm weather. As a result, growers from the southern regions of Ukraine expect to start sales no earlier than on May 20-25, while a year before active season had started on May 7-10.

Growers from the central and northern regions are also anxious about late cold spell expected in Ukraine in the nearest few days. Strawberry plantations are blooming now there, so cold spell may result in a significant loss of the crop.

We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian berry market developments will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2014: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market” that is to take place on May 22-23, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
