Russia: prices of Belgian pears down by 25% since beginning of 2014
The Russian market participants say of a significant decrease in prices of Belgian pears in Russia compared with the beginning of 2014.
Current prices in Saint Petersburg vary between 0.68-1.08 euro/kg, depending on variety and fruit size, a decrease of 24-25% compared with January.
Meanwhile, Belgian pears have become averagely 25% less expensive in Moscow. For the present, sellers offer those fruits at 0.74-1.13 euro/kg.
We would remind you that Belgium is the second largest exporter of pears to the Russian Federation with only the Netherlands exporting more. In July 2013 – March 2014, Russian importers purchased 48,000 tons of pears from Belgium, which share in Russia's total imports amounted to 18%.
