Armenian apricot production to fall this year

This year the Armenian apricot production will be significantly lower compared with last year, due to a cold spell in late March and early April in the country. This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Garnik Petrosyan during the meeting with the journalists on May 7. "Last year we had 89 thousand tons of apricots, but this year we are expecting only 8,000 tons of apricots. We will have apricots in the market, but we will not have last year's volume of export and processing", said Mr. Petrosyan.

The Deputy Minister reminded that the main harvest of the apricots is mostly in Ararat and Armavir regions, and the great damage inflicted by the cold spell was especially felt on the apricot trees of these regions. "The apricot trees are safe in Kotayk and Vayots Dzor regions, and we will have apricots in the market and we will be able to offer some amount to our consumers", he said.
