Ukraine: fresh produce price index down again

Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 1.6% in the week from May 10th to 16th. Thus, the price index has already become 15.6% lower over the past 4 weeks.

“Fruits and vegetables became less expensive mainly thanks to a further fall in prices of greenhouse vegetables. Prices of traditional vegetables were stable in the hope of the start of the new season”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “It should also be noted that the new season is now starting later than usual that enables to maintain prices at relatively high levels”.

Ms. Getman also connects high prices with the devaluation of the Ukrainian hryvnia that makes imported produce less competitive in the Ukrainian market.

The supply of strawberries grew last week. However, the demand for them remained moderate due to lower personal incomes of Ukrainians, later start of the strawberry season and higher prices.

We would remind you that more detailed information about current developments in the Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is available for the subscribers of Fruit-Inform service packages.
