Ukrainian fresh produce price index down last week
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index went down by 7.7% in the week from May 31st to June 6th, after an increase of 2.2% a week before.
«Early produce has finally taken a leading position in the Ukrainian market in early June that has resulted in a fall in prices in almost all fresh produce segments», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «The largest contribution to a decrease in the price index was made by traditional and greenhouse vegetables that became 21.6% and 20.3% less expensive, respectively».
Fruit prices also went down by 7.4%. At the same time, potato prices changed slightly due to still insufficient supply of early produce and low supply of last year's potatoes, which stocks were actively sold in the market.
The sharpest decrease in prices was registered in the white cabbage segment: -60% over a week. Greenhouse tomatoes became a third less expensive due to arrival of produce grown in summer greenhouses. Sweet cherry prices went down by 25%, and strawberries became 17% less expensive. The market participants also expect the negative price performance to remain in effect next week.
