Poland: stocks of Szampion apples down by 40% in April

According to the WAPA data, Polish stocks of Szampion apples have gone down by 43% in April 2014.

As on May 1st, 2014, the Polish national stocks of Szampion apples stood at 40,000 tons, while a month before they had totaled 70,000 tons. However, it should be noted that in the beginning of May 2013 the stocks were half as high as registered this year.

It should also be noted that Szampion apples ranked third in the Polish apple stocks structure (the share of 15% in total stocks) with only Idared and Golden Delicious stocks being higher.

For the present, export-quality apples of Szampion variety are offered at 0.27-0.29 euro/kg in Poland. The Polish market participants also say of lower demand for Szampion apples from the side of Russian importers.
