Ukraine: prices of early onions down week-on-week
According to Fruit-Inform, prices of early onions have averagely fallen by a third week-on-week.
For the present, Ukrainian farmers are ready to ship early onions at UAH 2.00-2.50/kg (EUR 0.12-0.15/kg), while a week before prices had been no lower than UAH 3/kg (EUR 0.18/kg). A decrease in prices is connected with a seasonal increase in supply, while the demand for onions is not high now.
Fruit-Inform analysts also say that prices have already fallen below last year's levels in Ukraine. In the beginning of July 2013, farmers offered early onions at prices 2-2.5 times as high as now. Such developments fully corroborate the forecasts announced in the fundamental study "Fruit & Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2014: Results and Forecasts for Next Season".
