Ukraine: ongoing increase in tomato prices
According to Fruit-Inform, tomato prices keep on growing day by day in Ukraine.
For the present, greenhouse farms are ready to ship tomatoes at no lower than UAH 8-9/kg (USD 0.58-0.65/kg), an increase of 15-20% day-on-day and twice as high as registered a year before.
A sharp rise in prices is connected with rather limited supply of greenhouse tomatoes due to cloudy weather and relatively high demand for them in Ukraine.
We would remind you that Russia remains the main export market for Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes with an annual share of about 80% in Ukraine's total exports. Nevertheless, Russia reduced imports of Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes by 40% in 2013.
More detailed information about the Russian fruit and vegetable market, production and import trends will be presented at the 7th International Conference «Fruit & Vegetable Business of Russia-2014», which is to be held on September 16, in conjunction with the largest food exhibition in Russia WorldFood Moscow 2014.
