Ukraine triples imports of Polish plums in summer
According to Fruit-Inform, Ukraine has tripled imports of Polish plums in summer 2014.
Polish exports totaled 1,400 tons, and Poland's share in Ukraine's total plum imports amounted to 70%.
Ukraine's cumulative imports of plums in June-August 2014 totaled 2,000 tons, twice as high as in the same period of the previous season.
An increase in Polish exports is connected with a significant fall in Ukraine's domestic production of plums due to spring frosts. The import growth was also favored by Russia's ban on imports from the EU and Moldova. As a result, Ukraine has become one of the alternative markets for European and Moldovan plum exporters.
