Ukraine: prices of high-quality table beets up by 50% since beginning of this week

According to Fruit-Inform, prices of high-quality table beets have jumped by 50% in Ukraine since the beginning of this week.

For the present, farmers are ready to ship those vegetables at UAH 1.80-2.50/kg (EUR 0.09-0.13/kg), while before the past weekend prices were not higher than UAH 1.80/kg (EUR 0.09/kg).

The price growth is registered due to a significant demand for table beets shown by Ukrainian retail chains and wholesale companies. As Fruit-Inform has previously reported, a cold spell has resulted in a fall in the supply of table beets at food markets, and trade has mainly switched over to stores and supermarkets.

It should be noted that growers' table beet prices have already reached last year's levels. Nevertheless, farmers still do not hurry with selling in the hope of a further increase in prices.

More detailed information about the Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market developments and outlook will be presented at the 11th International Conference «Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2014», which is going to be held on December 8-9 in Kiev. The conference will be followed by the 4th International Trade Forum with about 30 Ukrainian retail chains and importers ready to conduct negotiations with fruit and vegetable suppliers on December 10.
